CIVIL PARTNERSHIP
Following the CIVIL PARTNERSHIP ACT 2004 some same-sex couples have elected to form a Civil Partnership. As with heterosexual marriages, sometimes these partnerships break down. There are a variety of issues to be considered. These include:
- Financial matters
- what will become of the family home, any shared assets and pension policies.
- There may also be debts to be dealt with.
- Will any maintenance be payable?
- Children – if there are children of the family, what about
- contact arrangements and financial provision for them?
- Do you need to apply for parental responsibility?
- contact arrangements and financial provision for them?
Mediation can be used very effectively to help couples to settle these issues. ARENA MEDIATION can help both of you to consider the position and to make arrangements appropriate to your individual situation.
The dissolution of a Civil Partnership has to be granted by the courts in the same way that a divorce would. ARENA MEDIATION will help you draft a Memorandum of Understanding to enable your legal adviser to put your proposal before the court.
